A Safe Space for Adult Pop Culture

The VIECC 18+ Area is more than just a separate section of the convention—it’s a safe space for our adult community. Here, we create a place where art, risqué cosplay, and creative free-spiritedness have a place, without compromising on safety and the protection of minors.

Mutual respect, consensus, and privacy are our top priorities. With our own on-site security staff, a dedicated contact point, and a strict no-photo policy, we ensure that artists, cosplayers, and visitors can move about safely and undisturbed at all times.

18+ Area Policy and FAQs

No. Access to the 18+ Area is fully included with every regular VIECC ticket (day pass, weekend pass, Style ticket, VIP ticket, or Ultra VIP ticket). You don’t need an additional ticket—just the free 18+ wristband.

The wristband will be issued on-site at designated checkpoints upon presentation of a valid, official photo ID.

  • The followingare accepted: passport, national ID card, driver’s license (physical or ID Austria).

  • The following are not accepted: student IDs, university IDs, e-cards (even with a photo), company IDs, or library cards.

Yes, without exception. When it comes to protecting minors and complying with official regulations, our door staff have no discretion whatsoever. Everyone—regardless of whether they are 18 or 50 years old—must present a valid form of identification to receive a wristband.

No, there are no exceptions. To protect minors, children, toddlers, and infants (including those in strollers or baby carriers) are not permitted to enter the 18+ Area—even if accompanied by their legal guardians.

Exhibitors, artists, cosplayers, and booth staff will receive their 18+ wristbands directly at the exhibitor check-in on Thursday and Friday upon presentation of their photo ID. There is no need to wait in line at the regular visitor stations during the event.

The 18+ Area is designed as a safe space for the adult community. Our safety concept is based on three pillars:

  1. Constant Presence: Dedicated security personnel and trained VIECC team members are present in the area at all times.

  2. Designated Help Desk: There is a permanent awareness and help desk within the area for questions, incidents, or if you need assistance.

  3. Zero-Tolerance Policy: Harassment, inappropriate behavior, and disrespectful conduct will result in immediate removal from the entire trade show without a refund.

Please contact our help desk in the 18+ Area directly, or speak to the security staff or the mobile VIECC teams on site. We respond immediately and decisively to any incidents.

Yes. There is a general ban on recording, streaming, and photography throughout the entire venue to protect the privacy of all artists, cosplayers, and visitors.

  • Exceptions: Photography is permitted only at designated photo spots or with the explicit, personal consent of the person at the booth. Unauthorized photography will result in removal from the exhibition grounds.

No. Physical contact in exchange for payment (e.g., paid touching of the buttocks, breasts, or legs), erotic performances, or sexual services are strictly prohibited throughout the entire convention center grounds. Permitted are regular sales (prints, merchandise, photo books), autographs, and selfies that have been agreed upon in advance and are consensual.

Within the area, cosplay outfits may be significantly more revealing than at the main convention (e.g., boudoir, bunny suits, erotic cosplay). However, full nudity is prohibited:

  • Genitals, the pubic area, and the buttocks must be covered with opaque material.

  • Complete exposure (“topless”) is not permitted; nipples and areolas must be covered at least by opaque pasties, tape, or fabric.

Since the 18+ Area is physically separated, the regular, family-friendly VIECC dress code applies immediately upon leaving the area and heading toward the foyer or main halls. Revealing outfits must be covered with a cover-up (e.g., coat, kimono, jacket, pants) before leaving the area.

Yes, we’re planning to set up a separate changing area right inside the restricted 18+ section. That way, you can change on-site without having to walk long distances through the halls in revealing outfits.

No. The area showcases the full spectrum of adult pop culture: from comic art, doujinshi, dark fantasy, horror, and gore, to professional tattoo and piercing studios, collectible figures, adult merchandise, and a chill-out lounge.

No, we have a strict zero-tolerance policy here. Any depictions that appear to be underage or childlike (including lolicon/shotacon) are prohibited. Fictional backstories such as “The character is a 500-year-old demon in the body of a child” will not be accepted. Violations will result in immediate removal of the booth and expulsion from the convention.

No. The official VIECC No-AI Policy applies. All portfolios and works will be reviewed; AI-generated artwork is not permitted in either the regular Artist Alley or the 18+ Area.

Yes. All items purchased in the 18+ Area (prints, doujinshi, figurines, adult toys, etc.) must be packed in opaque packaging (e.g., in blind bags, opaque paper bags, or your own backpack) before leaving the area to ensure that youth protection measures are upheld at the main convention.

A transitional regulation will apply in 2026: Content that is clearly harmful to minors and uncensored 18+ material (hentai, BDSM, gore, adult toys) will be moved to the 18+ Area without exception. Standard PG-13 items available on the market and standard anime characters wearing light clothing (e.g., in a bikini) will remain in the regular retail section as long as they comply with general youth protection guidelines.

Artists and cosplayers can apply via the online form by October 15, 2026. If you’ve already been confirmed for the regular convention and would like to switch, please send an email to comiccon@expo-experts.at. A change is possible as long as spots are still available.
