A warm welcome to John Royle at the Vienna Comic Con 2025!

John Royle

John Royle worked for Marvel USA until 1996, his best-known projects being Wolverine: Evilution (a 1994 one-shot he drew in collaboration with Mark Texeira), Rogue What if ? and Excalibur. Along the way, he found time to illustrate some Rai supplements for Valiant, Robin-Impluse for D.C. Comics and worked on a number of Malibu’s Ultraverse titles, including Ultraforce, Prime and The Phoenix Resurrection.

His next work for Marvel was primarily on the 1997 issues of Star Trek: Star-Fleet Academy, but he was only there for a year before demand for his talent forced him to retire from comics, albeit for a short time.

After a six-year hiatus, he resurfaced at Panini (then still Marvel UK), for whom he worked on several issues of Spectacular Spider-Man over the next seven years, while also contributing to 18 of the first 19 issues of 2004’s Marvel Rampage and making key contributions to Stan Lee’s “Alexa”, a 2005 iBooks one-shot. Then came IDW and three series of Danger Girl. John also regularly provided covers for IDW’s G.I. JOE Real American Hero.

He has currently gone from interior designer to cover artist for numerous titles with Zenescope, Dynamite, Elvira, Red Sonja, other publishers and Kickstarter variant covers.
